The show is an official continuation of the events of the franchise as a prequel and follows a team of NASA researchers who are abducted by a race of aliens known as the KDP's from the dead Mars satellite Prometheus and then transmit the signal to Earth, where they are taken on board the aforementioned satellite by an artificially intelligent android named the Sphere Trooper. The podcast adaptation of characters from the franchise began in 2014. Dead Space: Purgatory, a short film based on the comic book of the same name, was released in December 2013.
